Editorial Policy
Last updated: June 2025
1. Our Editorial Mission
Karuppu News exists to serve the public interest. Our journalism focuses on accountability — exposing corruption, tracking government performance, reporting court orders, and amplifying citizens' voices through RTI and legal advocacy.
We are committed to accuracy, fairness, independence, and transparency. These four principles guide every editorial decision we make.
2. Who Can Publish
All reporters on Karuppu News must complete a KYC (Know Your Customer) identity verification before their articles are published. Verification includes Aadhaar validation, a professional background check, and an editorial orientation session.
Articles submitted by reporters are reviewed by our editorial team before publication. The review covers accuracy, sourcing, defamation risk, and compliance with our standards. The editorial team may request revisions, add context, or decline to publish.
3. Accuracy and Verification Standards
- Every factual claim must be supported by at least one verifiable source
- For allegations against named individuals or organisations, we contact the subject for comment before publication (minimum 24-hour notice, 48 hours for complex allegations)
- RTI documents, court orders, and government records must be attached to the article submission as evidence
- We do not publish anonymous allegations without at least two independent corroborating sources
- Statistics must cite their original source; secondary reporting of statistics must note the primary source
- Images must be original or properly licensed — no stock photos presented as news photography
4. Independence and Conflicts of Interest
Karuppu News is not affiliated with any political party, government department, corporate entity, or religious organisation. Our editorial decisions are made solely by our editorial team.
- Reporters must disclose any personal, financial, or professional relationship with the subjects of their articles
- Reporters may not accept payments, gifts, or other benefits from sources or subjects
- Advertisers have no influence over editorial content — advertising and editorial operations are strictly separated
- Editorial staff may not hold positions in any political party or campaign
- Sponsored content is clearly labelled and kept separate from news articles
5. Source Protection
We protect the identities of confidential sources. Reporters must not reveal source identities to anyone outside the editorial team without explicit source consent. Editors may know source identities but will not disclose them except under lawful court order after exhausting all legal challenges to such an order.
Whistleblowers contacting us via tips@karuppu.in are handled with strict confidentiality. We recommend using encrypted email (ProtonMail or GPG) for sensitive tips.
6. Right of Reply
Any individual, organisation, or government body named critically in a Karuppu News article has the right to submit a written response. Responses received before publication will be included in the article. Responses received after publication will be published as an addendum to the original article within 48 hours of receipt.
Send right-of-reply requests to editorial@karuppu.in.
7. Use of AI in Journalism
Karuppu News uses AI tools (including AI news generation assistants) as research aids, not as sole authors. All AI-assisted content is reviewed, edited, and approved by human editors before publication. AI-generated drafts are not published without human verification of all factual claims.
Articles primarily generated by AI are labelled with an "AI Assisted" tag.
8. Corrections Policy
We are committed to correcting errors promptly and transparently. See our full Corrections Policy.
9. Complaints
If you believe we have violated this editorial policy, contact editorial@karuppu.in. All complaints will be acknowledged within 24 hours and resolved within 7 business days.
